Car Sickness Stories
Pork Rind Explosion
For christmas, I decided to drive the long haul from Oklahoma to Florida to spend the holiday with family. A friend/co-driver, my son, and myself were in the car most of the trip with the exception of a stop at another family member's house in Tennessee. The trip was mostly uneventful. We of course hit the usual gas stations and rest areas, but the stop I will not forget is was in Florida. It was a normal stop like any other. We used the restrooms and walked around a bit. Then my son wanted something from the machine there. My son has a restricted diet of nothing with any tomato product, acidic fruit product, or the dreaded nut family (highly allergic). When I saw a bag of pork rinds I thought how gross, and at the same time, there is nothing in those that he can't have. So I put the coins in and got 1 bag. He loved them. He just kept chomping on them. Eventually they were gone and he was fussing for more, but there wasn't any and we were getting close to our destination. Suddenly he started making funny sounds. I looked back and all of a sudden vomit just went every where. Everything he had eaten and a bag of pork rinds came up. It was all over. Of course all I could do is try and comfort him from the front seat until I could find a place to pull over.
When we stopped and switched drivers so I could get into the back seat, I got to see the extent of the damage. Everything in the back seat was covered in vomit. He was screaming and crying and all I could do is mop him up with wet wipes....LOL. And the greatest part of all of this...................a trip from Oklahoma to St. Petersburg Florida and this all happens 20 minutes from where we were going. Can you believe it? Never fails to amaze me at how IRONY works. Needless to say, I was very glad that the condo my family had rented had a washer and dryer, because we had several loads of stinky smelly pork rind regurgitated goo to get out of clothes, blankets, stuffed animals, and the wonderful carseat cover that takes an acrobat to take off and put back on.
