Week 27

Welcome to week 27! Your baby is now 25 weeks and weighs probably around 3 pounds, measuring 9.6" (head to bottom) and is just over 15" from head to heels. Your baby has really grown and is beginning to really fill the space in your uterus.

Your baby's eyes have been sealed together up until this point, but they are now opening and closing. A flashlight pushed up against your stomach can be an interesting stimulas for baby. You may notice them squirm away from the light or even kick at it.

Baby is also able to taste with the tastebuds that developed around 16 weeks. The food that you eat can pass through into the amniotic fluid and give baby a wide range of new flavors. Hiccups could be part of your babies normal daily routine at this point. Hiccups can be caused by thumb sucking, but also by the food you are eating, especially if spicy. Hiccups usually only last for a few minutes and while we may think that they are annoying, the baby isn't bothered or hurt by them.

Tips for Mom
Has fear of the unknown started to overtake you yet? Are you stressing about not getting everything done before baby's big arrival or are you concerned about how you will do in your new role as mother? These are very common concerns, especially in first time moms and you are not alone. Talking over your concerns with other moms can be a big help. Remember, millions have gone before you! You aren't the first and you won't be the last. Remember that the atmosphere (meaning nursery, etc) does not have to be perfect before baby's arrival. When your baby comes home from the hospital, they will not know that they bedding hasn't arrived or the walls aren't painted. They will simply want to feel secure in your arms or nestled in at your breast. As you get further into this pregnancy, it will also be harder to get things done and some things will need to be pushed to the back burner. Don't worry! It will all get done!!!
