Week 29
Welcome to Week 29! Your baby is now 27 weeks and about 16.5 inches from head to heel and weighs about 3 pounds. Your baby is beginning to regulate it's own body heat to an extent, although it will not fully be able to regulate until several days to weeks after birth.
Did you know that the weight of your baby can increase based on the number of the pregnancy?

For example, a second baby will probably weigh more than the first and a third more than the second. This is not always the case, but it has been noted in many studies. While the average weight is between 7 and 7.5 pounds, it can vary based on several factors. Gender and culture also play a role in birth weight.
Tips for Mom
You should be noticing a lot of hard movements and "kicks" from your baby at this point in your pregnancy. Those small "flutters" you first felt are gone and when baby moves, you may now notice your whole abdomen moving with it. Your baby's movement may depend in part on your own. If you have been extremely active, you may not notice your baby being as active. Try drinking some orange juice or other sugar type liquid and lay down for awhile. Your baby will begin to get more active and you will begin to notice the movements. You should notice 10 movements within an hours time. Most women will feel many more than that, but a doctor will request that you feel at least 10. If you still are not noticing any movements, contact your doctor.
How is your iron?
While your baby has it's own blood supply that doesn't mix with yours, iron in YOUR blood is incredibly important to both you and baby. Expect your doctor or midwife to do a finger poke in the coming weeks to check your iron level. If it is low, you will be prescribed an iron supplement.
